Methodology

PHASES is our structured methodology for improving industrial OT critical infrastructure across its full lifecycle. Each phase builds on the last—from upfront planning and assessment through high and low level design, implementation, and ongoing optimization — to reduce risk, strengthen reliability, and align your network with the needs of production. 

We have evolved PHASES from adapted proven elements of leading planning/execution processes and frameworks like CMM2, Cisco Systems PPDIOO, Project Management Institute (PMI), SEI Carnegie Mellon and others.  And while PHASES is a structured and repeatable digital-delivery methodology, it is adaptive rather than a rigid as, no two customers are alike.

Together, the six phases and their underlying tasks provide a clear, measurable, repeatable path for modernizing complex critical infrastructure network environments.

What critical infrastructure demands today is a resilient, sustainable infrastructure built on proven standards and real-world expertise. We combine industry frameworks, decades of practical project experience, and designed-in knowledge sharing to create systems that are secure, reliable, and built to evolve... reliably... safely.

Over decades of project execution I've seen it over and over, technology consultancies engage just long enough to solve an immediate issue or deliver a design… then collect the fee. At that point it's up to the entity to Administer, Operate and Maintenance the solution. For critical infrastructure this approach to solution delivery is not an acceptable approach. In fact its unsound, unsafe.

 

Active knowledge-sharing of applied methods required for solutions sustainment is essential to ensure effective operations processes are in place AFTER the engagement is completed. 

Within every phase, Prescher.com has defined a set of critical tasks that are key to project success. Each task acts as essential input into neighboring tasks in the same phase and across phases. They were identified and organized over the course of hundreds of IT/OT projects.

Planning

Specification LLD Low Design

By detailing every device setting, network segment, and security zone in advance, we eliminate the costly mid-project corrections and surprise add-ons that typically inflate vendor invoices. Having these specifications in hand allows you to compare vendor quotes on an apples-to-apples basis and provides the flexibility to phase installations over time as your budget allows. Execute Deploy

During the Execute (Deploy) phase, we translate technical designs into a live operational network while strictly protecting your production uptime and budget. We coordinate closely with your operations teams to schedule and plan low-risk cut-overs that fit well planned maintenance windows. Every device configuration and physical installation step is validated against identified safety and performance targets to help achieve the goal of a system working correctly. This disciplined approach avoids the high costs of re-work, turn-up/turn-down, and emergency overtime and helps reduce repeated site visits caused by configuration errors. By executing changes in a controlled, step-by-step manner, we seek to integrate new equipment and software into your environment without causing unexpected downtime or expensive, mid-course corrections. Our priority is to finish the rollout on time and within the original budget, providing you with a stable, high-performance network that meets all industrial requirements from day one.

Support Sustain

Once your infrastructure is live, our Optimization phase protects your initial investment by ensuring your new or improved network continues to meet performance demands with planned levels of availability and reliability. We focus on active monitoring and configuration tuning to identify and resolve technical issues before they escalate into production outages. This phase is essential to ensure that complex systems entropy is addressed.  It also helps to extend the useful life of your existing assets and plan for future upgrades in smaller, more affordable steps rather than high-risk, large-scale replacements.
